Q) Can you make something like that?
A) A usual question from a potential customer in the initial design stage for a needed component. Given a few parameters this can be determined quickly and normally the most critical specification becomes apparent at this point. Following this we ask for a blueprint with specifications so a formal quote can be done.
Q) Is the proposed optical material familiar?
A) During our 32 years of manufacturing components we have worked with most types of optical materials however, grinding and polishing compounds are constantly improving and sometimes require R&D to update a fabrication process for a particular material type.
Q) Does OPTEK Mfg. do component modification?
A) With the use of computers and off - the- shelf optics many engineers and designers often find a component they can use --- almost! Whether its drilling a hole, adding a radius, slabbing a lens, most modifications are possible.
Q) Are odd shaped parts a problem?
A) Our knowledge of machinery and expertise in fabrication methods allows us to manufacture difficult shapes, we often design and build apparatus to perform a particular operation.
Q) What about the cost?
A) Whenever possible we work closely with engineers and designers to keep costs to a minimum. Sometimes a slight change in tolerancing can make a significant cost savings. Many customers fax a print to us for quote with a note asking for advice on changes that would reduce cost to manufacture.
